We are so grateful to have volunteers from CMU, Chatham University, and the Student Conservation Association as well as our individual volunteers. CMU students Chris DiAndreth, Brandon Dzirki, Steve Cerioni, Mike O'Connor, James Snyder, Harley Montero, Jonathan Seit, Kapil Taswar, Andrew Biar and Rob Murcek built the walls for our Home Show booth; a group from the Student Conservation Association came in and did some cleaning and work on door hardware. According to Wikipedia, Valentine's Day... is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). It's fun to know that Valentine's Day is celebrated all over the world.
In regions of the UK, a character called 'Jack' Valentine knocks on the rear door of houses leaving sweets and presents for children.
In France and Spain Valentine's Day is known as "Saint Valentin" and "San Valentín" respectively while in Portugal it is more commonly referred to as "Dia dos Namorados" (Lover's Day / Day of those that are in love with each other).
In Denmark and Norway, Valentine's Day is known as Valentinsdag respectively while it's called Alla hjärtans dag ("All Hearts' Day") in Sweden. It's also known as "Hearts Day" ("Araw ng mga Puso") in the Philippines. In other countries the meaning of Valentine's Day translates into "Friend's day", "Affection Day" or "Day of Love and Friendship".
In Slovenia, a proverb says that "St Valentine brings the keys of roots", so on February 14, plants and flowers start to grow. Valentine's Day has been celebrated as the day when the first work in the vineyards and in the fields commences. In Lithuania and Latvia, it is common for people to put stickers on faces and clothing of a friend or a relative.
