CJ's garden department
With all of the snow we've had it's hard to fathom that spring is right around the corner... but it is!! Gardeners know that planting season is fast approaching and that we'll be seeding crops like onions, leeks, spinach and peas just as soon as the soil allows us to work it.
It's with those thoughts that we're ordering supplies and planning ahead for a well stocked garden department. We see our garden department as an important extension of our environmentally focused mission and our ability to help you support reuse, be a 'greener gardener' and strengthen your local ecosystem.
We'll be focused on four key areas: 1) cool 'found objects' that can be used as funky and creative garden elements, 2) locally grown plant material, 3) a spattering of classes and 4) a well rounded line of organic gardening supplies.
Plant material will include native plants, heirloom tomato seedlings, herbs and more supplied by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Garden Dreams Urban Farm & Nursery and Blackberry Meadows Organic Farm.
Pennsylvania Resources Council will provide classes and organic supplies, as listed below, will be provided by Ohio Earth Foods. And of particular note... in light of last year's late blight that deprived all of us from our beloved homegrown tomatoes... we're bringing in two organic fungicides including Garden Dust 2 and Serenade. Enjoy and here's to a great growing season!
- Re-Vita Pro (5-4-5) - All natural general fertilizer complete with trace minerals.
- Re-Vita Organic Lawn Fertilizer (8-3-3) - All natural/slow release lawn fertilizer.
- Bon Neem - Versatile organic insecticidal soap with benefit of Neem oil.
- Diatomaceous Earth - Uses mechanical action to kill soft bodied insects like aphids!
- Liquid Fish Fertilizer - Use as a foliar spray or water in. Great mixed with liquid seaweed.
- Liquefied Seaweed - A tremendous product and boon to plant growth and health.
- Garden Dust 2 - All purpose organic insecticide and fungicide.
- Serenade - Broad spectrum preventative biofungicide.
- Slug Magic - Proven slug and snail killer made from iron phosphate.
- Plantskydd Repellents - Repels rabbits, voles, squirrels, deer, etc.
