2nd Annual Community Donation Drive
That time of the year is approaching again... the Holiday Season. A time of joy, merriment and good cheer. It's also a time of reaching out to our nonprofit community and in that spirit we're announcing our 2nd Annual CJ Community Donation Drive. Organized by CJ's Community Outreach Coordinator, Bonnie Rolison, this year's drive will run from November 1st thru the holiday season.
Last year we collected items for the Rainbow Kitchen, Animal Rescue League, Global Links, Free Ride Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse. This year... CJ is collecting items for:
Humane Society for Western Pennsylvania
- To see what the Humane Society is wishing for, click here.
East End Cooperative Ministries
- Share the warmth and bring in gently used coats, hats, scarves and gloves. These donations support EECM Hunger, Housing, and Children & Youth programs. For some of these folks, a warm coat could literally make the difference between life and death this winter. EECM staff have told us they desperately need coats.
Pittsburgh Tote Bag Project & Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
- With our relationship with the Pittsburgh Tote Bag Project, we have joined together for a tote bag food collection for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank - so you can donate some food items in a tote bag (in cans and plastic containers only please). Click here for more information.
Lenscrafters International Mission Program
- The Gift of Sight program collects and recycles eyeglasses for international missions. These glasses are matched to people around the world who have no available means to get eyeglasses.
Donations bins are opposite the register in the front aisle. Thank you for your generosity to all our neighbors, human and animal, near and far!
And of course... we're always accepting building materials!!
The CJ Buzz
As a Pittsburgher, we thought you might like to know... On Nov. 8, city residents will have an opportunity to vote in a referendum that will ensure the solvency of one of the most robust and culturally indispensable institutions in the region: the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
October 29, 2011
DEA has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 29, 2011, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm to provide a venue for persons who want to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.
The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) and partners Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Pennsylvania American Water will once again collaborate with the DEA and local law enforcement to provide residents of the Pittsburgh region with a safe and convenient option for disposing of their unwanted pharmaceuticals free of charge.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. More than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Each day, approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time, according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.
This past spring, the DEA in conjunction with state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States conducted a national Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Nearly 4,000 state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the nation participated in these events, collecting more than 188 tons of pills. In the Pittsburgh region, more than 7,300 pounds of unwanted medications were safely collected and disposed of.
For more information and a list of locations visit PRC’S Zero Waste Pittsburgh website or call PRC at 412-488-7452. We've also included this printable flyer.
