STORE AND RECYCLING CENTER CLOSED SAT, SEPT 8TH!
Every year the Construction Junction team scours the globe (or at least the World Wide Web) for an intriguing live art demonstration for the Big Pour. We have poured hot metal, glass, and paint and unleashed chainsaws to create sculptures in wood and ice. This year we are turning a steamroller into a giant printing press!
The Steamrolled Pittsburgh project is collaboration between Construction Junction® and the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh. With support from the Sprout Fund, we selected a group of 8 artists to design and carve unique interpretations of 8 Pittsburgh neighborhoods in a 2’x2’ wood block. Prints of the separate neighborhoods will be distributed to library branches in Allegheny County to be enjoyed throughout the city before all pieces are put on display in the Oakland main branch library for the month of March 2013.
During the Big Pour, using the steamroller, larger 4’ x 8’ prints will be created on paper and cloth surfaces using various assemblages of the eight 2’ X 2’ wood block carvings. The neighborhoods depicted include: Hazelwood, the South Side, Squirrel Hill, Homewood, Downtown, Oakland, East Liberty and the Hill District. The artists: Jim Rugg, June Edwards, Cory Bonnet, Steve Cup, Monika Gibson, Bec Young, Deanna Mance, Maria Mangano, Katy DeMent (did the print for CJ’s 1st Community Day).

The larger prints will be available after the Big Pour!
