A Novel Deconstruction!
Update: Three sections of the reference desk have been purchased.
This week we are featuring this beautiful reference desk from the Lawrenceville location of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. The library is currently closed for renovations to better utilize their space. The reference desk was generously donated so that the craftsmanship and beauty could continue being appreciated! These reuse opportunities only work when all the parties involved in a renovation project work together!
Thanks to Kenneth Faux from Imperial Construction Services, LLC who gave our deconstruction crew a call alerting us to this opportunity. Brian, our Deconstruction manager, performed a walkthrough of the renovation project, assessed the feasibility of the project (timing, labor needed, and value of material) and then scheduled our crew. CJ does not charge for this service, consequently we have to very strategic about the jobs we accept for deconstruction. CJ worked with the Imperial Construction Services crew to get the desk out of the library and back to our retail floor!
The reference desk is four sided and is solid oak with elements that are quarter-sawn such as card catalogs, a secretary desk and cabinets. Details such as the dovetailed drawers make the craftsmanship of the piece immediately apparent. It has been priced so that each side can be sold separately from the other but in truth we would like to see the whole piece find a home somewhere! If you are interested in learning more about the reference desk please give us a call!

Rain Barrels on Parade Auction!
Through Rain Barrels on Parade, StormWorks is raising awareness of Pittsburgh’s stormwater issues and beginning a conversation with the community on how individuals and businesses can control their stormwater footprint while also saving money on water use. Painted and decorated rain barrels are on parade until September, at which point they will be auctioned off to be used in homes and local businesses. Proceeds will go toward the artists and educational stormwater programming, so consider putting in a bid! Keep checking back for auction details. The painted rain barrels will also be showcased at the Allegheny Green & Innovation Festival.
