e-Blast

March 16- March 22, 2009

It's garden time again

With this e-Blast also comes the first day of spring, Saturday, March 21st.  And with spring comes a bubbling energy from our staff to breath new life into our garden department (aisle 1).  We've been planning ahead, ordering supplies, rearranging and putting out materials we've been saving for this very occasion and we're tickled pink to be launching our garden department right on time this year.  Where does all of this bubbling energy originate from?

Everywhere!  Practically all of CJ's staff is into gardening, farming  and/or local foods one way or the other.  For example, we're members of organizations like East End Food Co-opPennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture and Slow Food Pittsburgh.  We're also active farmers and gardeners ourselves whether we own them, work on them or subscribe to them through Community Supported Agriculture programs.

It is with this vigor that we've worked hard to salvage and make available good reuseable outdoor garden materials and a number of organic gardening supplies such as those listed below.  Enjoy and here's to a great growing season!

  • Re-Vita Pro (5-4-5) - Excellent all natural general fertilizer complete with trace minerals.
  • Re-Vita Organic Lawn Fertilizer (8-3-3) - Excellent all natural/slow release lawn fertilizer.
  • Bon Neem - A versatile organic combination of insecticidal soap plus Neem oil.
  • Diatomaceous Earth - Uses mechanical action to kill common pests like slugs!
  • Liquid Fish Fertilizer - Use as a foliar spray or water in.  Can be mixed with liquid seaweed.
  • Liquefied Seaweed - Use as a foliar spray.  A tremendous boon to plant growth and health.
  • Burn Out II Weed & Grass Killer - An all natural and safe weed and grass killer.
  • Vermiculite - Add to potting soil to improve aeration and moisture retention.
  • Plant Pro Potting Soil - An organic potting mix enriched with compost, kelp, humate, rock phosphate and greensand.  For all house and bedding plants.  For seed starting add one part vermiculite to three parts Plant Pro.  We call this stuff magic soil.
The CJ Buzz

In case you didn't realize... kids love coming to Construction Junction.  It's one big adventure to them.  We can't resist snapping their pictures.

CJ Q&A

We are remodeling a kitchen in a condo in downtown Pittsburgh.  Do you provide a donation receipt for tax purposes for kitchen cabinets and appliances?  Do you remove the cabinets?  Do you pick up?  -- Bruce

Bruce -- Yes.  We are a nonprofit and donations to us, no matter what they are, are tax deductible and we provide a receipt for tax purposes.  We're not equipped to remove your cabinets but we do have a free pick up service for larger donations and it certainly sounds like yours would qualify.  Contact our Donation Manager, Bonnie Rolison, at 412-243-5025 x12 to discuss your donation.  Thanks for thinking of us.  -- Cozmo
