The Pillow Project at CJ

Many of you may not know this, but for the last several years a dance company has called Construction Junction home.  That dance company is called The Pillow Project and the space they occupy is called The Space Upstairs.  We just love having The Pillow Project at CJ and are excited to share the following news...

The Pillow Project announces 2009 Second Saturdays Season.

In preparation for their fifth anniversary, Artistic Director of The Pillow Project, Pearlann Porter, has constructed a new Second Saturdays season that further defines the unconventional nature of the company's location and their signature performance/art happening events through live music, modern-jazz dance, artistic collaborations and experimentations.

The Pillow Project's Second Saturdays series, entering its second year, brings visual art, live dance and music together in an up-close, cool and casual lounge atmosphere.  As the name would have it, Second Saturdays happens on the second Saturday of every month (July through November) at The Pillow Project's home base: The Space Upstairs.  Each event features ongoing live performances throughout the evening, multimedia experimentations and visual art from The Pillow Project and local guest artists in Pittsburgh.

This year, for a twist on the series, the last hour of each Second Saturdays happening will go "silent": We encourage patrons to bring their own mp3 player to experience a truly unique and personalized experience with their favorite music when the evening's performances are repeated sans audio!

The Second Saturdays 2009 season debuts in July with "Dirty, Hot and Blue": a gritty, jazzy night of provocative dance, photography and music soaked to the bone in the blues, featuring collaborative work with guest artist Michael Walsh (Dance Alloy Theater) and live projection by The Pillow Project's own videographer Jessi Sedon.  The season continues in August with "On the Moment", an exciting and completely unexpected evening of improvised ideas, art and performances led by guest artist Gia Catalano and The Pillow Project's resident percussionist, PJ Roduta.

The CJ Buzz

Around May 29th be prepared to see a lot of display racks, bars, small cases and get this... luggage.  Yes you read correctly... we're getting the contents of a luggage store donated to Construction Junction.  The luggage is used but includes many high quality pieces.
