Off the Floor
Construction Junction's mission is to promote conservation through the reuse of building materials. Naturally, our store is our primary conduit for acheiving this mission, but we also work to promote and support reuse throughout the region. That's why we highlight artists/craftspeople doing beautiful things with reclaimed materials and tell you about great events like Handmade Arcade or PRC's Hard to Recycle events. In that vein...
Off the Floor Pittsburgh is a volunteer based organization started in 2004. It provides basic used furniture like beds, dressers, tables, and chairs to the neediest families in Pittsburgh who lack these items and are literally living on the floor of their homes (PG article). Off the Floor's supply of donated furniture is critically low as the holidays approach and they're swinging open their doors on Saturday, October 17th from 9 am to 1 pm, to remedy this situation and replenish their stock. Refreshments will be provided along with tax-deductible receipts.
Off the Floor's warehouse is located at the Pittsburgh Presbytery, 901 Allegheny Ave (near Heinz Field). For more information goto their website or call 412-926-5053. If you can't bring items that day, fill out an online donation form to have Off the Floor pick up your items at a later date. Please consider donating your gently used excess furniture items to Off The Floor. By doing so you can help transform the lives of the neediest families in Pittsburgh.
Off the Floor does accept: box springs, mattresses, bed frames, bunk beds, couches, chairs, end tables, coffee tables, night stands, dressers/chest of drawers, lamps, linens/blankets/comforters, small appliances (toasters/coffee pots), vacuum cleaners, cribs, crib mattrasses, hi-chairs, strollers, and pack-n-plays.
Off the Floor does not accept: sofabeds, recliners, futons, refrigerators or other large appliances, china cabinets, large buffets, cots or roll away beds, trundle beds, large rugs, TV's, vanity's, headboards/footboards, mirrors, used pillows, computers and toys.
The CJ Buzz
Bonnie our donation manager, and CJ's pre-emanant Master of Buzz, says that CJ is going to be getting a ton of paint soon and that "kitchen season" has arrived. Bonnie expects we'll be getting at least one kitchen a day for the next two weeks (10/2 to 10/16/09). In addition to kitchen season, it's also "insulation season" and as such we're acquiring a shipment of gently used XPS and ISO rigid foam insulation (1" to 2" thick). It'll be on the sales floor starting next Friday (10/9/2009). That's good buzz!
