Brewing Up A Cure
As you might has figured out by now, given our enthusiastic creation and hosting of our annual fundraiser the Steel City Big Pour... the staff and board of Construction Junction love craft beer. But what we love even more is when good craft beers are paired up with local food and music to support a good cause.
Naturally, that's why we work so hard to bring you our annual Steel City Big Pour that support our environmental mission, but it's also why we told you about the Millvale Brew Festival and why we're going to tell you now about another craft beer festival called Brewing Up A Cure.
The Third Annual Brewing Up A Cure event raises money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and is brought to you by the Three Rivers Underground Brewers Club (TRUB) and TruClose Financial Services (glass sponsor). The event is being held on Saturday, October 17th at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association on Fifth Avenue in Oakland from 7 - 10 pm. Last year, Brewing Up A Cure raised $22,000 in the name of Sadie’s Soldiers for Sadie Lane Terrick.
TRUB members have been brewing up more than 50 different home beers. Samplings of delicious food from a variety of restaurants including some yummy desserts will also be available. Additionally, there'll be many commercial beers at the event including East End Brewing, Stone Brewing, and a unique selection from Frank B. Fuhrer.
Entertainment by Highway 13 will return by popular demand as will the “special” super silent auction, including a hand crafted bar donated by T.C. Contracting, and other awesome items for guests to bid on.
General admission tickets are available online for $30 but are going fast. Tickets at the door, if available, will be $40.

Off the Floor Furniture Drive
October 17, 2009Off the Floor Pittsburgh is a volunteer based organization started in 2004. It provides basic used furniture like beds, dressers, tables, and chairs to the neediest families in Pittsburgh who lack these items and are literally living on the floor of their homes (PG article). Off the Floor's supply of donated furniture is critically low as the holidays approach and they're swinging open their doors to remedy this situation and replenish their stock. Refreshments will be provided along with tax-deductible receipts.
For more information goto their website or call 412-926-5053. If you can't bring items that day, fill out an online donation form to have Off the Floor pick up your items at a later date. Please consider donating your gently used excess furniture items to Off The Floor. By doing so you can help transform the lives of the neediest families in Pittsburgh.

CJ Q&A
Do you accept old paint cans for disposal? Thank you -- Jennifer
Jennifer -- Good question. We accept cans of usable latex paint that are more than 1/2 full, have non-rusty lids and have labels that are still legible. We do not accept oil based paints. You may want to check out the Southwestern PA Household Hazardous Waste Task Force. They hold regular collection events and take both latex and oil-based paint. -- Cozmo
