Creative Reuse Open House

In case you didn't know... Construction Junction's warehouse is home to a number of other nonprofits including The Pillow Project, Free Ride, GTECH and Creative Reuse Pittsburgh.  It's as though we have our very own nonprofit co-housing group!

On Saturday, October 24, 2009, one of these nonprofits, Creative Reuse Pittsburgh, will be holding its first ever 'open-to-the-public' shopping day.  Creative Reuse's mission is to get re-useable materials which are ordinarily discarded back into circulation through programs that explore and encourage new ways of utilizing these otherwise wasted resources.

CRP collects and redistributes reusable discards from area businesses, such as overstock, sample items, production mistakes, trim and punch outs, and leftovers.  Items for sale will include: fabric, tubing, leather, containers & trays, stickers, self-adhesive vinyl, mat board & foam core, paper, frames, lab glass, foam, trophies, wax, plastic doohickies of all shapes and sizes, and much much more.  In addition to selling the materials it collects, CRP uses them in unique hands-on creative arts activities.  Check out CRP's website for more info.

CRP, a project of the Pennsylvania Resources Council, is located in an upstairs space right off CJ's sales floor.  Look for the 2nd door to the left of the vending machines.  The sale runs from 9 am to 5 pm.  Prices range from .10 cents per item to $10 for a mix-and-match bag.  Cash only.

The CJ Buzz

Conservation Consultants Inc. is offering SolarPV Grid-Tied Installation Training  from 9am to 5pm on November 16 - 20, 2009.  Training is being held at the CCI Center, 64 South 14th St in Pittsburgh.

Participants will learn the fundamental concepts required for working safely with PV systems and design a residential-sized, code compliant, batteryless grid-tied solar-electric system.

Completion of this workshop can earn you: credit toward the advanced PV course and the ability to be listed on the PAsunshine website.

Arbor Aid 2009
October 30, 2009

Friends of the Pittsburgh Urban Forest (FPUF) presents Arbor Aid 2009

Join FPUF for their annual fundraiser featuring artwork created by local artists incorporating salvaged wood and light, music, local food and libations, a silent auction and more!  Arbor Aid celebrates the possibilities presented to us by trees as resources within our city.  Rather than chip or log urban trees that need to be removed, FPUF encourages giving them a longer life by repurposing them as art, furniture, flooring and everything in between.
