CJ does deep salvage
We're very happy to report some exciting news from our Salvage/Deconstruction division... Construction Junction is currently participating in a “deep salvage” project on five structures slated for demolition on Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill.
This project is a follow up to the full hybrid deconstruction project we conducted in September 2008 in East Liberty. That deconstruction project was a valuable learning experience for our salvage crew and as such we're now applying a more selective deconstruction process in our current project.
The goal of this project is to demonstrate the job creation potential and economic impact of deeply salvaging materials and then working with a conventional demolition contractor to retrieve brick and stone.
This project also supports our interest in seeing several co-mingled construction waste recycling facilities in our region. The presence of such a facility would allow clean wood (such as lathe which doesn't currently make economic sense to salvage) to be recycled. Through a combination of deep salvage and recycling, we could divert 50 - 75% of demolition debris from landfills.
Now there's a great gift idea for our region!!

Free firewood
The staff at CJ has started stock piling pallets that we can't make use of so that someone else can make use of them as firewood. Please help yourself to as many of these pallets as you'd like. Please click on the "read more" for a photo... and here's to the beauty of use and reuse.

Scott -- We do accept bicycles on behalf of Free Ride, a nonprofit organization that rents space in our building. There's a large wooden crate near the entrance of our store for such donations. You can drop off the bike anytime we're open. Happy Holidays! -- Cozmo
