Deconstruction

What is Deconstruction?

At Construction Junction, we are committed to environmental stewardship in waste prevention through the practice of reuse. Waste prevention and material reuse help to delay entry of items into the solid waste stream. This practice reduces the burden on landfills, and helps conserve natural resources by reducing the energy and pollution associated with manufacturing.

Reuse is different from recycling. When a material is recycled, it is processed and remanufactured, requiring additional resources and energy to produce a new product. Reuse is defined as the use of a material after its originally intended purpose, without breaking it down into its raw components.

Construction Junction encourages donation of unwanted building materials. Wood, brick, concrete, metal and cardboard are the most commonly recycled materials from construction debris and make up more than 50% of the total waste stream. Please contact us at (412) 243-5025 to find out more about our donation program.

Building Deconstruction

An alternative to demolition or renovation is applying a practice of environmentally friendly building deconstruction through reuse of buildings and materials, and incorporating reduction and recycling of on-site construction materials. Construction-related waste accounts for about one-fourth of total landfill waste in the U.S., according to the Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange, a national network of regional pollution prevention information providers. Many natural resources used in building materials are becoming scarce. Practicing reuse and recycling can strengthen our natural resources.

Deconstruction can help you save money on demolition costs and possibly provide your clients with a significant tax deduction. Deconstruction will divert usable building materials from disposal at the source. Our experienced, fully-insured staff will come to your job site and remove items that we sell at our retail store in Point Breeze including cabinets, doors with jambs, windows, trim and casement work, and hardwood flooring. More extensive removal of slate, framing lumber, rafters, and floor joists may be possible if your project timeline permits. These deeper salvage jobs may require a fee for service agreement.
